Popes

This work takes a critical look at the church. Two popes laugh mischievously at each other, one of them reaches into the other's coat in a slightly insinuating manner. The picture plays with the theme of homosexuality in the church. As always, the snake plays the role of temptation and sin. “A Mundo Conditio” means 'Since the creation of the world' and again refers to homosexual love, which is frowned upon by the church. The existing psalm on the right of the painting could also be interpreted in this context: “Sprinkle me, O Lord, and I shall be clean. Wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 50,3.
